Trickum Middle School8

I honestly don't understand Trickum Middle. I have to say that we get really great test scores, but this school focuses too much on testing and less on their students' happiness. This school trains students to harshly for the CRCT and helping them move to the next grade. MOST regular education classroom teachers don't really care about their student's futures. They just do their jobs so they can earn their pay. Gifted Classrooms take more time to help students prosper and become young adults. Another issue is that when students are given time to go to the restroom and their lockers, they decide to go socialize instead. Due to this, students are now denied the RIGHT to use the restroom which is truly not fair to the other students that do the right thing. If one goes down, we all go down. I do know what I'm talking about because I'm a student myself and I see all of this go down. Some students are so disrespectful towards staff members behind this backs. Cursing and Flicking-Off. It's ridiculous and rude. I just can't stand it. In my point of view, I would not recommend sending your child(ren) here. They would be better off in the Shiloh district.

This is a really nice school if you are in PROBE classes. In these classes, the teachers care about your success in school. The problem is, if you're not in PROBE classes, the teachers don't usually care. They act as if they have already given up on you. Most students are also terrible behaved in most regular education classes. I am not trying to say that they are all like that or it is just regular education, PROBE also has it's issues. The students are under so much pressure to do well. That is all we think about. We always talk about grades. Overall this is an OK school.

The curriculum is challenging and the school focuses on scoring high on standardized tests rather than individual needs. Unfortunately that leads to a stressed out staff, students and parents. The is NO Individualized attention. Kids who don't fit in to the mold of an academic star don't have a chance! We end up having to help our child ALOT because he can't grasp some of the concepts. Some of the assignments seem like high school level and are over our college graduate heads. The kids in Seventh grade are overwhelmed from day one with numerous projects, homework assignments, and deadlines. My son has to carry around a huge bag of books because he can't get the locker to work and can't get the teacher to help him with it. I'm just not as crazy about this school system as I had hoped. These people take school waaaay too seriously!

Pros: great Connections classes, nice facilities, parent involvement, many different clubs Cons: student discipline is a problem, too much emphasis on Probe program/students, student grades in portal not kept up to date, large class size, teach to the test academic approach

Trickum school is horrible. The 6th grade teachers have bad attitudes and do not want to teach the children. One teacher, Mrs Benefield has even been arrested during the school year. I can't wait until my child leave this school.

Overall the teachers are great. But when your student came from a elementary school in a gifted program and be put in a gifted program you never had and they dismiss you after the 4th quarter and tell you student they can't get back into the gifted program for 2yrs. I think is wrong. Over all they don't test in the school in the gifted program they just assign them what they want to give them. My student is better in math, language arts, science. She has had A's in social studies but they want her to still get dismissed out of the program. Wrong I will be fighting fhis to the top. Also to much another stuff is going on . I have scene the police come to school cause a child didn't take their medicine. I am awesome they were volient.

It's horrible. Sure we get good test scores, but do you know what life is like on the inside? Unfortunately for our society, schools are now build like modern day prisons. One thing that drives most students (especially me) crazy, is the learning environment. In the classroom, there is only one small window by the teachers desk that only they can enjoy. The walls are cinderblocks painted white. Our lockers are less than 1 cubic foot. Everything is white. The floor, ceiling, walls, everything. We only have 20 minutes for lunch. We only have 4 minutes in between classes. We can't choose any of our classes. It's a prison from 9 am to 4 pm. We are even denied to use the bathroom! We are denied the most basic of necessities. School is not fun anymore. It is all regulated. Where is the life? The creativity?

I am a former student at TMS. I moved in the middle of the eighth grade, and it seems that I can't find a school in my area as great as TMS, the teachers and the student body are great.
